Vehicles registered in Åland
Periodic inspection of light and heavy vehicles (except museum vehicles) registered in Åland can be carried out at A-Katsastus stations, provided that the vehicle’s Åland registration certificate is presented. Information on vehicle taxes and the validity of the traffic insurance will be checked with the Åland registration authority (Fordonsmyndigheten) before the inspection. Documents from an approved inspection will be sent from A-Katsastus to Åland, and the authority will then mail the Åland registration certificate to the customer.
If it is discovered during the inspection that the vehicle has been modified in a way that requires a modification inspection, the inspection must be interrupted. A modification inspection for a vehicle registered in Åland must always be carried out in Åland. It is also not possible to handle matters related to Åland license plates or registration on the mainland. A-Katsastus stations that provide registration services can only assist if a vehicle from Åland is being registered on mainland Finland. In that case, a registration inspection must be carried out on the mainland.
