In addition to the periodic inspections, A-Katsastus also covers modification inspections and registration inspections as well as vehicle certificates.

Modification inspection

A modification inspection must be carried out on a vehicle if its structure or intended use is substantially altered. An addition or removal of equipment may also result in the vehicle requiring a modification inspection. In addition, vehicles that are intended to be registered as museum vehicles must undergo a modification inspection.

Typical modifications that require a modification inspection include:

  • Modifications of tyre and rim size
  • Engine modifications
  • Chassis set installations
  • Changes on dimensions and masses

The cost of the modification inspection varies by service point. Check the cost of the modification inspection with customer service by phone or contact us via the feedback form.

Registration inspection

The registration inspection is carried out when:

  • a vehicle is imported as new or used
  • a vehicle is removed from service when damaged
  • a vehicle has been previously registered in Finland, but has been removed from the register before 2.11.2007

Vehicle certificate

The registration inspection examines the conformity of the car’s structures, equipment and characteristics in accordance with the regulations in force in Finland at the time of the car’s entry into use. When a vehicle is being registered in Finland, a certificate is required, for example, to certify that the different characteristics or parts of the vehicle comply with the regulations in force in Finland at the time of the vehicle’s entry into service. The provisions may concern exhaust emissions, brakes, steering, noise, seat belt fastening and other details, for example. The inspector determines the need for a certificate and obtains one for your car effortlessly. This way you can avoid buying any unnecessary certificates. A certificate is most likely to be obtained when the vehicle was manufactured in Germany or has been registered there.
